FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  What is a Community Supported Kitchen (CSK)?

A: Our business is inspired by the Supported Agriculture (CSA) model, where members of a CSA farm pre-purchase produce and pick up their fresh vegetable shares every week. It's a great way for farms to sell their produce directly to the community.

Three Leaves Heritage Foods views itself as a Community Supported Kitchen (CSK) because similarly to a CSA model, our members can pre-purchase our food, only rather than a box of farm fresh vegetables our offerings come in the form of freshly-prepared, nutritious, ready-to-eat meals.

We buy local and organic wherever possible. It’s good for the environment, and because fruits and vegetables are not subjected to packaging and lengthy transport, they retain most of their nutritional value.

Q: How many meals are in a share?

A: Well, that depends on how people eat in your family. A family with a ravenous teenager eats differently than a family with a toddler. A family where both parents are runners will eat differently than a family of non-athletes.

For our family of 4, we can usually share the entrée (with side item) amongst us, mix up a nice green salad and be content. The next night, we might split up the soup and the fresh salad from the share; the following night  we will heat up an order of our half roasted chicken or grass-fed burgers with crispy potatoes, onions and greens (available for purchase every week) with the condiment for the share. That leaves another salad to be enjoyed by the kids in their lunches or a parent at work, or as a supplement for any other meal. Each of the two desserts is usually enough to divide.

Q: What’s in a weekly share?

A: Each week, the shares contain the same types and quantities of foods. The menu is different each week based on what’s fresh and in-season (and what we’re excited to cook for you!). Your share will include:

  • One 32 oz soup

  • Two 32 oz salads

  • One entrée

  • A condiment

  • A healthy, gluten-free dessert

Q: How do I become a member?

A:  Simply click here or use the membership button in our online store. This $25 fee covers the cost of a reusable bag and helps with the cost of re-usable jars in order to sustain our commitment to the environment.

Q: Do I have to be a member?

A:  Yes and No…

No—You don’t have to be a member to come into the shop and purchase items from our À La Carte selection. Our opening hours are the same as the pick up hours for monthly shares, and we always have our fridges and freezers stocked with tasty weekly specials and delicious customer favorites.

Yes—If you are interested in purchasing a weekly share, you need to join with a one-time membership fee of $25—this provides you with the reusable jars and your Three Leaves insulated carry bag. Once you’re a member, you can choose to order our weekly menu at any frequency you like. Weekly, as it fits your needs, or you can pay in advance for a whole month at a time and simplify your process.

OUR FOODS

Q: I have food sensitivities. Can you accommodate that?

A: Everything at Three Leaves Foods is gluten-free and dairy-free, however, we do occasionally offer goat cheese in a couple of dishes, but it will be clearly marked. If there is a dish that you cannot eat, just let us know at pick up and you can exchange it for another item of the same value. Easy!

Q: I’m vegetarian. Do you have a share option for me?

A: We've got you covered! We have a Vegetarian Share option you can choose online when you order. We also have a range of weekly à la carte items in our Heritage Food Store that are vegetarian. Come in and check them out!

ORDERING AND SHOPPING

Q: Can I purchase a gift certificate for someone?

A: Yes, and our gift certificates make great gifts for new parents, friends or family needing support for health reasons, or to just take the stress out of an already busy week.

Q:  What are your pickup hours?

A: Our current hours are Wednesdays 3pm-7pm and Thursday and Fridays 10am-2pm. We’ve had customers tell that because our store hours are unique, they set a reminder on their phone!

Note: Wednesday is a busy day, so the earlier you make it in, the more choices you'll find in our Heritage Food Store shelves!

Q: Why are you only open during those pickup hours on Wednesday and Thursday?

A: Our production is finely tuned to bring you the tastiest and freshest dishes. The behind-the-scenes work we do on the other days of the week—from perusing local farm offerings to soaking beans and fermenting krauts to the long slow cooking of our broths—leads up to your shares and the à la carte dishes being created and ready for you during our pickup hours. We’ve worked to make these as convenient for different schedules as possible with some morning and some evening hours on our pick up days.

GLASS RETURNS

Q: Should I wash the glass jars before I bring them back?

A: Yes, please! And please remember to return the lids as well.  As we have to sterilize the jars and lids in our kitchen all we need is for you to throughly rise the jars in hot water.

Q: What if I still have questions?

A: Just get in touch with us! You can reach us by email at info@threeleavesfoods.com
